One Piece classification rules

Product rule confirmed on 21 October 2026. The implementation remains an admin-only preview; this rule does not authorize a public catalogue cutover.

Series membership means physical distribution

A series page must show the exact physical printings obtainable from that release's real booster, deck, collection or promotional distribution. A printed gameplay number is not a distribution series. Never derive membership from its prefix, the card name, the legacy cards.set_id, a technical variant suffix, rarity or the artwork of a different printing.

For example, the French Shanks printing fr-OP09-001_p2 is distributed in ST-23 — Starter Deck: Red Shanks. Its printed number remains OP09-001. That printing belongs in the ST-23 series results and must not appear in OP09 series results merely because its number begins with OP09.

Bandai source series ID622023Verify the official physical product contents

Verify the exact printing against the official Bandai ST-23 contents and the Cardmarket Red Shanks edition. Bandai and Cardmarket IDs are provider-specific and must retain their provider labels. A marketplace grouping such as Unnumbered Promos is not itself a physical pack: preserve and display the actual source product or event separately.

Reprints and all editions

  • A reprint belongs to the release distributing that exact printing. It does not automatically inherit the original gameplay card's release.
  • The same exact printing may have several physical distribution memberships when each is independently supported. Do not force a single product or copy every product from another printing of the same gameplay card.
  • Match the physical language, region, illustration, stamp and source printing identifier. Similar artwork or a shared gameplay number alone is insufficient.
  • All editions groups versions by the complete printed gameplay number, including versions distributed outside the number's original series. Searching a name such as Shanks can return several different gameplay cards.
  • Record the first release separately when dated sources establish it. Neither the printed prefix nor ingestion time proves first-release chronology.

Rarity and visual variant are independent

Keep official rarity, such as L, SEC or TR, separate from collector treatment and visual variants such as Parallel, Alternate Art, Manga or stamped artwork. Neither changes the physical distribution rule. A parallel star is evidence to review; an undetected star does not establish a standard version. Technical suffixes such as _p2 are source aliases, not universal variant categories.

Evidence and missing information

Use the official Bandai product card list and matching Cardmarket edition and printing evidence. Retain source URLs and original product/provider identifiers. Keep uncertain edition or exact-artwork matches explicitly unresolved; do not invent an external ID or substitute a neighbouring version. Listing absence alone does not prove that a product never existed.

Admin acceptance checks

Whole-catalogue physical-product audit

The onepiece-physical-products-20261021 preview independently records physical products and commercial Cardmarket editions. Physical distribution product is the primary source for where to obtain a printing; Cardmarket category and edition remain marketplace navigation. A broad marketplace promotion grouping must not replace the actual pack, deck, collection or event.

The audit covers all 13,460 existing versions, using 176 refreshed official Bandai card-list/product/event responses, four refreshed supplier endpoints and the current public Cardmarket catalogue of 12,613 products. Physical products are documented for 13,381 versions: 8,041 have official Bandai printing or previously bound visual evidence, and 5,340 retain an explicit supplier product description. The latter remain source proposals, rather than being promoted to official Bandai verification. There are 79 unresolved physical-product contexts, including generic colour/Judge/Treasure Cup descriptions, missing or conflicting source artwork and unspecified regional stamps.

Of the previous 126 records without a marketplace association, 124 now have an explicit physical product, including all 51 Japanese Family Deck Set versions. This does not create 124 marketplace IDs. The unverified P-700 source and the unqualified Black and Gold DON remain unresolved. Nine earlier promotional marketplace proposals for official starter-deck printings are withheld pending exact marketplace printing proof, with the genuine physical decks retained.

The new product selector, per-version product links and pending-distribution filter are read-only. Product-filtered name searches show only that product's printings; All editions opens the complete gameplay-card family separately. All physical IDs, languages, rarities, treatment assignments, source aliases, artwork and original provenance remain unchanged. Seven stored images were compared with supplier and official artwork to identify the source product; their files are bound by hash and no image is replaced. First-release chronology and exact serialized/foil status are not inferred from those matches.

The complete per-card review, source-response hashes, immutable replay composer and preservation evidence are in admin PR #37.

Open Taxonomy preview:

  1. Select ST-23 and search the printed number OP09-001. The French fr-OP09-001_p2 printing must appear.
  2. Select OP09 with the same number. That ST-23 printing must be absent; the actual OP09 printings may appear.
  3. Open All editions for OP09-001. Compare thumbnails and distribution products across its editions, retaining physical language distinctions.
  4. Inspect Business rules and Documentation in the admin: both expose this classification rule and the Shanks identifier example.

For administrators, the ordinary One Piece Gallery defaults to proposed physical products and displays a preview banner. Its Current associations mode still shows stored attachments, including the old OP09 attachment. Existing series links resolve through the registered source release. Contributor views and other TCGs retain the current catalogue behavior. This admin read overlay does not change collection references, prices, physical printing IDs or the active public catalogue.

See the migration plan for the staged model and admin PR #37 for implementation, source evidence and remaining unconfirmed cases.
